Kateryna Kalytko

Poet, Translator

Kateryna Kalytko (born in 1982) is a poet, prose writer and translator, PEN Ukraine board member. She has published ten collections of poetry and two books of short stories. Kateryna’s writings are translated into more than twenty world languages. Among her literary awards and fellowships are the Central European Initiative Fellowship, KulturKontakt Austria, Reading Balkans, Vilenica Crystal Award, Joseph Conrad Literary Prize, BBC Book of the year and Women in Arts Award from UN Women. In 2023 she was honored with the Taras Shevchenko Literary Prize, Ukraine’s highest award. Striking imagery emerges in her recent writing like puzzle pieces that create a violent and shocking picture of war, conveying the loss and pain that is experienced during a search for safety and identity amidst the war. As a translator, Kateryna is focused on Western Balkans and especially on Bosnia and Herzegovina, with fifteen book titles, translated into Ukrainian, in her portfolio.
