Irwan Ahmett

Artist

Irwan Ahmett lives in Jakarta. His early works were about pouring out imagination through performative interventions in the midst of Jakarta’s crowded public spaces when facing the dilemma of uncontrolled urbanization and pollution. Irwan’s growing network among artists, activists, and researchers has encouraged his art practice to explore other spaces in greater depth. Currently, Irwan is working on a long-term project related to the geopolitics of turmoil in the Ring of Fire – the Pacific Rim, the region most prone to natural disasters and traumatic consequences caused by ideological and structural violence. Irwan uses high mobility as the main vehicle in his work by participating in residency programs, field studies, and exhibitions. As an artist, he wants to find a reflection on planetary anxiety in relation to human existence through an evolutionary perspective and seeks to produce knowledge through art related to injustice, humanity, and ecology.
