Hiromi Kawakami

Novelist

Born in Tokyo in 1958. Novelist. She debuted in 1994 with Kamisama (God) which won the Dumago Prize and she won the Akutagawa Prize in 1996 for Hebi o fumu (Tread on a Snake).

Her other books include Sensei no Kaban (Strange Weather in Tokyo; won the Tanizaki Prize), Oboreru (Drown), Ryūgū (Dragon Palace), Nishino Yukihiko no Koi to Bōken (The Ten Loves of Nishino), Furudōgu Nakano Shōten (The Nakano Thrift Shop), Manazuru (White-neck Crane; won the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts), Daisuki na Hon (My Favorite Book), Dokokara Ittemo Tōi Machi (A Distant Town, No Matter Where You Go), Nanayo Monogatari (Tales of Seven Nights), Suisei (Voice of Water; won the Yomiuri Literary Award), Ōkina Tori ni Sarawarenai yō (Under the Eye of the Big Bird; won the Izumi Kyōka Prize for Literature), Mori e Ikimasho (Let’s Go to the Forest), Sandome no Koi (The Third Love), Koi wa Hakanai, Aruiwa, Pūru no Soko no Sutēki (Love is Fickle, or, the Steak at the Bottom of the Pool; won the Noma Literary Prize), and Tokyo Nikki (Tokyo Diary).
