Hilmar Farid Setiadi, also known as Fay, is an Indonesian historian and cultural bureaucrat. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Indonesia (1993) and completed his doctorate at the National University of Singapore (2014) with his dissertation titled Rewriting the Nation: Pramoedya and the Politics of Decolonization.
From 2015 to 2024, he led the Directorate General of Culture at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. He chaired the Supervisory Board of Perum Percetakan Negara RI (2016–2020) and served as President Commissioner of PT Balai Pustaka (2020–2024). In 2024, he founded Jalindonesia, a cultural initiative that fosters cross-community collaboration and strengthens Indonesia’s cultural ecosystem.
