About F/acta

Jakarta International Literary Festival (JILF) serves as a platform for meaningful exchanges between Indonesian and international writers, offering fresh perspectives from the world of literature on current issues. With the theme “F/acta: Words and Actions Aligned, on Eco-Literature”, this year’s festival delves into urgent topics from the anthropocene crisis, eco-literature, to sustainable practices, providing a creative space to reimagine our shared futures.

This year, the Literature Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council (DKJ) is collaborating with JakTent to organize the 4th Jakarta International Literary Festival (JILF). Yayasan Tujuhbelasribu Pulau Imaji (YTPI) in collaboration with Frankfurt Book Fair has managed JakTent since 2020.

JILF is DKJ’s flagship program, has been held since 2019, and is included in the regional image program that supports Jakarta as the Jakarta UNESCO City of Literature (CoL), and makes Jakarta the only city in Southeast Asia to receive this title. JakTent is the flagship program of YTPI, a non-profit organization that actively organizes literacy activities and promotes the world of Indonesian books on the global stage.

In 2019, JILF was held for the first time with the big title PAGAR/FENCE discussing the relationship between global southern countries, in 2020 with the theme HEROES discussing people who become “heroes” in the midst of a pandemic situation, and in 2022 with the title OUR CITY IN THEIR WORLD regarding the role of cities in shaping the voices present in literary works. The topic of ecological literature for F/ACTA is certainly still closely related and in the same spirit with JILF in previous years.

This year, the JILF x JakTent collaboration carries the Jaktent theme “Shared Culture, Shared Future” and the JILF theme “F/acta: Words & Actions Aligned on Eco-Literature” which relates to the promotion of literature and culture as well as environmental sustainability.

The 4th iteration of the festival invites dozens of speakers for 10 main panels, book launches and discussions related to the theme, media exhibitions (in collaboration with National Geographic Indonesia, Mongabay, and Trend Asia), performance nights/literary nights (in collaboration with Kusala Sastra Khatulistiwa and a number of literary communities in Jakarta), a number of booths of the exhibitions that showcase the rich world of content in Indonesia, and a book fair (in collaboration with IKAPI) to enliven the festivity.
