Jemmy Piran, born in Sabah, Malaysia, on February 18, is a short story writer whose work is shaped by the intersections of identity and life in borderland. He holds a degree in Indonesian Language and Literature Education from Nusa Cendana University in Kupang. Jemmy’s stories have appeared in publications such as Tempo, Jawa Pos, Kalam Sastra, Bacapetra, Basabasi, and other online platforms. His books—Obituari Sebutir Telur, Seekor Ayam, dan Babi (Basabasi, 2018), Wanita Bermata Gurita (Laksana, 2020), and Dalam Pelukan Rahim Tanah (Basabasi, 2021)—explore themes of body, land, and memory. Selected as one of the Emerging Writers at MIWF 2020 (held in 2022), he is currently working on two forthcoming books.
