Before working in publishing and translation, he studied Fine Arts at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts. In 2000, together with five other friends, he co-founded ruangrupa, an art collective that recently made headlines around the world as the main curator of Documenta 15 (2022) in Kassel, Germany.
